- Preface
- The Program of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) in KCST is structured primarily as on-site
requirements to offer students flexibility to earn their Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree
on a full-time basis.
The program of MBBS in KCST is community oriented those shoulders Community Based
Training and Problem-Based Learning. Our students will go through the curriculum to graduate
successfully as clinicians, leaders, educators, advocates and researchers making use of our heritage
in medical education and adopting up to date medical practice and adding to the future of medicine
locally and globally. The total number of credit hours for completion of the MBBS program is 226
hours.

- The mission is to educate and equip students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes that are
essential for a professional physician.
- Objectives
1. Education
The MBBS curriculum of Alkhawarizmy College is designed to meet the rapidly expanding and
rapid growing career of medicine. The curriculum includes all levels of objectives, all forms of
content, all mechanisms of delivery, and all individual and group assessments that are organized
to achieve the educational outcomes. The curriculum aimed at graduating doctors with up to date
knowledge on medicine and medical practice who will be capable to deal with the community and
meet its demands, as well, they will be capable of navigating their way in post-graduate studies.
2. Service and Patient Care
Teaching staff and graduates are anticipated to share in providing quality controlled service both
at the level of specialized centers down to rural hospitals and health centers. The graduates will
participate in national campaigns like eradication of polio, in the medical care of the displaced
people and immigrants and at times of crisis. Our students will help develop local communities
and solve the problems in these communities with appropriate interventions. This will also provide
patient-centered care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the treatment of health
problems and the promotion of health and that will include:
- a) Awareness of all medical, diagnostic, and surgical procedures considered essential for the
area of practice.
- b) Gathering essential and accurate information about patients and their conditions through
history taking, physical examination, and the use of laboratory data, imaging, and other
tests.
- c) Organizing and prioritizing responsibilities to provide care that is safe, effective, and
efficient.
- d) Interpreting laboratory data, imaging studies, and other tests required for the area of
practice.
- e) Making informed decisions about diagnostic and therapeutic interventions based on patient
information and preferences, up-to-date scientific evidence, and clinical judgment.
- f) Developing and carry out patient management plans.
- g) Counseling and educate patients and their families to empower them to participate in their
care and enable shared decision-making.
- h) Providing appropriate referral of patients including ensuring continuity of care throughout
transitions between providers or settings, and following up on patient progress and
outcomes.
- i) Providing healthcare services to patients, families, and communities aimed at preventing
health problems or maintaining health.
3. Research
Both the staff and the students of KC will be involved in conducting high caliber researches
that will address nation-wide health problems. The research will also focus on current
global health issues.

- Learning outcomes
By the end of this program, the graduate should gain the following:
1) Cognitive:
- a) Scientific knowledge that should be acquired to be used in diagnosis and management
of health problems, according to known methods of problem solving and integration,
and explains the scientific structural (anatomical), functional (physiological,
biochemical), morbid (microbiological, pathological), and therapeutic
(pharmacological) background related to the problems.
- b) Basic, community and clinical sciences to be integrated in solving community, family
and individual health problems.
- c) Administer a health "unit" or "center" efficiently according to scientific, medical,
statistical, economic and legal bases.
- d) To have the necessary knowledge to carry health or health-related research, alone or
with a health team, using the scientific methods known in such activities.
- e) To have the needed knowledge that accepts being updated through the evolving
computer and network technologies.
- f) Having the knowledge to choose his/her future postgraduate qualification in the
discipline of his/her choice, recognizing the needs of the society specialties, particularly
general practice and family medicine.
2) Psychomotor:
- a) Manage emergencies, and decide and act properly on cases needing referrals to specialized
centers or personnel.
- b) Develop the skills of teaching, learning and communication efficiently to carry out his/her
duties in health education and in winning the confidence of patients and their families and
societies.
- c) Acquire the skills of appropriate ethical counseling and advices in breaking news to the patients
or their relatives in the different critical cases or conditions.
- d) Acquire the necessary skills of writing a medical report about the referred cases.
- e) Continue to consider elements of efficiency, costing and economic implications in his/her
diagnostic and therapeutic choices.
- f) Be independent in learning, and contribute to availing opportunities for planning and
implementing continuous educational activities to upgrade his/her own abilities and those of
his/her colleagues in the health team.
- g) Diagnosing common medical problems and has the wisdom of dealing with emergent medical
conditions.
- h) Have the skills of writing and / or appraising a scientific article for publication.
- i) Diagnose and manage cases of endemic and epidemic diseases, and other health problems
prevalent at the level of the individual, family or society, with special emphasis on the
nutritional and environmental problems common in developing countries, and plays an active
role in health promotion.
3) Affective:
- a) Accepts to work in all settings according to needs, and act to improve health service delivery
systems both quantitatively and qualitatively.
- b) Encourage community participation and act in recruiting various sectors in defining health and
health-related problems, planning and providing suitable solutions, recognizing the community
beliefs, ethics, and traditional practices.
- c) Adhere to "health team" approach, acting as an efficient member, capable of its leadership,
dividing labor and responsibilities among its members, and ensuring both effectiveness and
homogeneity among the members.
- d) Observe in practice, the health professional ethics which agree with the values of the medical
profession, beliefs and norms (as stated by Sudan Medical Council), and maintain good and
honest relations with his/her patients, their families, his/her colleagues across all sectors
involved in health.
